The Mana‘o Behind the Family Crest
Our crest honors the legacy of our kūpuna, shaped after the Hawaiian Coat of Arms. The mahiʻole, ahuʻula, and kāhili reflect our roots in Hawaiʻi and our lineage as descendants of the aliʻi of Maui — from the House of Moana, carried through the generations back to King Kekaulike.
The four sections of the shield represent the cultures that make up our ʻohana: Hawaiʻi, Portugal, the Philippines, and Germany. Different backgrounds, united through aloha, through our connection to ʻAkua and the ʻāina, and through the love we share as a family.
At the center is the kalo leaf representing Hāloa — life, beginnings, and the deep connection uniting past, present, and future generations. Within the leaf sits our monogram: KBC.
The motto on the banner reads:
"Lōkahi nā hanauna, Pili nā naʻau."
United across generations. Forever connected at heart.
